Three years...25 million, with an option for a 4th year at 9 million or a 2.5 million buyout.
I do not have any information on exactly how budget minded Sabean must be for 2012, and there is also the matter of wasted dollars....12 million plus still owed to Rowand who won't be there, 18 million plus owed to Zito for whatever Zito winds up doing, and ten million owed to Huff who I doubt retains his starter staus in 2012. So, the team begins shopping for roster fillers already 40 million in the hole for those three, none of whom figure to be making much of a contribution.
Lincecum, Cain, Wilson and Freddy Sanchez will be making about 35 million collectively, added to the wasted bucks above that is 75 million to pay six players. I read that the team is looking for a 100 million cap for the team, so that leaves 25 million to pay the other 19 guys. If they sign a prime free agent you have to figure 9-12 million a year, which then would leave about 15 million for the other 18 guys.
Because the World Series is pretty boring, who actually watches a baseball game anyway?, time to start thinking about next season.
Guessing where free agents will sign and for how much is always fun, or annoying.
These are some of the bigger free agents.

Thome will probably stay in the AL and ride out his career. How is he going to hit any more HR's if he is only playing part time? You know he wants to climb the list a little more! I'll say Cleveland.
Reyes will get 5 years for $90 million plus, not sure where, but SF is supposed to be his first choice. AP wll, IMO, return to St. Louis, and Fielder will get about the same/year as Reyes. Where-don't know.Fielder will get more years, I agree, due to lack of injury history.

I think Fielder will get a Texiera type contract. A little bit less money
Fielder is not the all around star Tex was at his signing, and as such, I think he undercut what he could have gotten. Tex could win gold gloves hitting .225, and was a good situational RBI guy, high BA, high OBP, not just raw power. Fielder is not as multi-dimensional.

Not sure why Prince is so underrated around here.
Teix's OBP the 3 years before he signed with NY:
.371, .400, .410
Prince's OBP the previous 3 years:
.412, .401,.415
Teix's total offense was 40% better than the league average over those 3 years.
Prince's total offense was 53%
better than the league average over those 3 years.
Teix's total WAR over those three years was 15
Prince's total WAR over those years was 15.3

But Prince is also an outspoken ultimatum guy. Tex blends in a little better and there is nothing worse than a bad attitude or a big mouth to upset a clubhouse. Prince hasn't hit that extreme but has trashed his father publicly so it is possible that he could become that bad.
