Oh yes. I don't know if anyone presently playing will hit that level of contract but I would say there's got to be a phenom out there somewhere now either in high school or in the minors.
Pujols is a once-in-a-lifetime player. You can't say there are any younger players in the pipeline that have to potential to be another Pujols. By the time another one comes along, there could have been a whole new mindset about player values and salaries.
$300 million is not thar far above $250 million, and who knows, Fielder might get $300 from somebody next week. But for the time being, I don't see any significant elevation in the near future. In the present economic prospects, there isn't enough revenue out there to be gained by such an investment.
Nobody is going to offer the Bryce Harpers a half a billion dollars until they prove that they are Albert Pujols, and there are a hundred Bryce Harpers for every Albert Pujols.
Baseball doesnt seem to want to change their spending habits, so yes, I think we will see a 10yr/$300M player. Maybe not tomorrow, but someone is going to get in the future...yes, it will probably be a once-in-a-generation player, but I think we will seei it, just a little ways down the road...

I agree with you, in that there's no one as good as Pujols right now. But baseball is a very healthy support despite economic worries(evidenced by the ho-hum labor agreement with no problems agreeing to no additional salary restrictions.
