Cracked or gave his friend a way out? I'm a Yankee fan but it seemed a little convenient to me. Reasonable doubt anyone?

Not sure what you mean by "cracked', but I bet it's not complimentary. Memory and human nature being what they are, it is not unusual for a witness to make one statement at one time, and when questioned in detail about it later, expresses the statement with a different degree of certainty. It happens in every court case.

First, nobody can remember in perfect detail events or conversations 12 years ago (you can't either), and second, everyone colors their account of events according to certain personal sympathies about the events (you do too). In fact, you did when you chose the loaded word "cracks" in your title of the thread.

Pettitte is just helping his buddy out now...probably felt sorry for him...that cloud of suspicion will always be hanging over Roger's head no matter what happens.

What would you do, if you were called to testify against your best friend, charged with something relatively harmless that a lot of people are doing, like smoking marijuana or evading tax. Would your testimony and recollections be a little bit fuzzy in favor of your friend?
