Bumgarner has pitched in three loser go home post season games..2014 WC, five innings of relief in Game Seven, and now the 2016 wild card. In 23 innings Bumgarner has yet to give up a run.
He was his usual ho-hum, another day at the office self in post game interviews.
I would have swapped Kelly Johnson for Jay Bruce after Rivera led off with double, as it was obvious at that point, it would be low-scoring game.
Ultimately though, Mets offense failed by seeing just 21 pitches in first 3.
The Giants and Dodgers have never met in the post season. It remains in play.
I'd never thought about it before, but you're right. Intra-league post season play didn't start until 1969, but for many years after that the Giants and Dodgers still had zero chance of meeting because they were in the same division. The first game payed with a wild card team as one of the teams was in 1995...and they certainly haven't played from that point forward.
Replay shows Span safe at second on steal, but somehow he is out anyway?
Because New York was reviewing a play against a New York team, what did you expect from that?? I think he did come off the base, but I didn't think Reyes had the tag on him at the point. The call on the field (which was terrible) was likely the factor in why it didn't get overturned.
Also if Connor Gillapsie doesn't scream "even year magic" at you I don't know what does. Regular starting third basemen Eduardo Nunez (after they traded Matt Duffy to Tampa for Matt Moore) was injured and was the only reason Gillapsie was even playing. If Nunez is healthy, who knows if Gillapsie even makes the team. He probably would have, but you never know.

He was still so fired up when he caught that ball hit back to him in the bottom of the 8th, I said to myself....he'll only need one run and he'll be able to do it in the bottom of the 9th.

You can't really call it a strategy....having some journeyman suddenly turn into Rogers Hornsby for a particular game or series. In 2010 it was Cody Ross. In 2012 it was Marco Scutaro and Travis Ishikawa. Both Barry Zito in 2012, and Tim Hudson in 2014 were on downward career trajectories, but came up huge in critical starts.
Napoleon held that "Luck is the residual of design." If that is true, it has been Bruce Bochy who has been the designer. It seems like everything he does in the post season works to the team's advantage.
Congrats and as a Met fan who wanted a win I knew in my gut that this was not their year (as imo their offense is so-so at best) and they would lose last night that I didn't even bother watching the game.
After two gripping, tightly played wild card games, I suppose we were due for a bummer, although I don't imagine Jays fans view it as such.
