Well several managers have been fired including Mike Matheny of the Cardinals and Buck Showalter of BLtimore and John Gibbons of Toronto as well as Bryan Price who was dismissed earlier this year

Marlins coach Don Mattingly has to be on his way out after 3 seasons of misery.

Jeter has seen that investment from the inside this season and I'd guess he is looking at the success of Boone/Cora as first year managers and has to be ready to toss Mattingly.
