Interesting article from Dugout Central about the teams of the decade from both leagues.

Check it out. (http://www.dugoutcentral.com/blog/?p=2310 - broken link)

interesting is right, how do you get team of the decade without winning a single world series.

Yeah, there's something to be said for being a consistent winner, but it appears to me that winning a World Series or two should count for quite a bit.

Y'all have been up there every year, TNGuy, so that really shouldn't come as any surprise. The year-to-year numbers speak for themselves.

As Mark Twain once observed, "There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics." The article was really just a lot of nonsense; you could play around using different variables and conclude that practically any team finishing over .500 was special or remarkable in some way. Over the course of the decade, wasn't Atlanta just as consistent a winner as St. Louis? And they didn't have much to show for all those games won, either.

I would guess that's why St. Louis finished with 14 more points than Atlanta.

Braves fan here. I think Boston should be the team of the decade for the curse busting way in which they won. Plus it's always good to see the Yanks lose.

Something else in that article that I take issue with is the claim that the decade goes from '00 to '09 instead of '01 to '10, when the latter is technically correct. If you go with the one that is technically correct, it's still a little early to be having this discussion.

Mainly, though, I think it's kind of silly to think that every decade HAS to have a "team of the decade." The '70's had the Reds winning four pennants, and winning the Series two of those times, and the A's winning five straight division titles with three straight World Series wins sandwiched in the middle of that run. Then in the '90's, you've got the Yankees' run at the end of the decade, and the Braves' consistent excellence throughout, with five pennants and that Series win in '95. But this decade has been like the '80's, with a lot of teams in the mix at various times. Things could change a bit, with either one or two seasons left in the decade, depending on how you mark the decade, but right now, only one team has more than one world championship, and that team has all of two. I'd have to say that no team really stands out like those teams in the '70's and '90's.

If I were forced to pick one, the obvious choice would be the Red Sox--the team with the two championships, and the way they won the first one was legendary--but that's only if I were forced to name a team. We'll see what happens in the decade's waning moments, but for now I'd say this decade does not really have a "team of the decade."

I agree it's interesting and "pay close attention to this". ****I am a Yankee fan and even though we are competitive most years, I hate to say it but in the American league I believe the Red Sox deserve it more then us. They hadn't won one in YEARS but have since won 2****. Shocker--huh?

You can say that again! I'm surprised that other Yankee fans haven't ganged up on you yet.
