what, from the Charlotte Hornets on draft day?? You're still lamenting that 14 years later? While an awful trade in hindsight, the Hornets didn't have much of a choice at the time.

I remember when that happened. Kobe seemed like he was your run of the mill HS prospect. A lot of teams passed on him before he was drafted too. Good scouting by the Lakers.
Because 96 was full of talents too and they didn't think they needed Kobe's services at that time. Kobe unlike MJ was a bench player in his rookie year and only averaging about 17mins off the bench thus scoring only less than double digits on most games.
Ok, I didn't understand the OP's thread title at first. Now w/ that out of the way;
He wouldn't have stayed very long here anyways, he let them know that he didn't really want to play here by not working out w/ the team. Charlotte has always struggled to recruit big name NBA players and then when they do they usually leave first chance they get. The Hornets should've drafted Steve Nash instead, who they were hoping would've still been available at the 16th pick but Phoenix picked him up at 15. Charlotte got two first round picks that year because of the Alonzo Mourning trade.
The whole thing backfired, Divac and Delk didn't last long here. But really I can't imagine KB still being here today. Nash maybe, but not KB.
Kobe Bryant was once a Charlotte Hornet, for 13 days - CharlotteObserver.com (http://www.charlotteobserver.com/2010/03/05/1289903/passing-on-kobe.html - broken link)
