Tony Parker signs four-year, $50M extension with Spurs | detnews.com | The Detroit News (http://www.detnews.com/article/20101030/SPORTS0102/10300400/1127/SPORTS0105/Tony-Parker-signs-four-year--$50M-extension-with-Spurs - broken link)
I'm not really surprised at this. The Spurs coach is a really good coach and is really big on loyalty so I never expected Tony to leave. Also the San Antonio market is great for Tony because of his wife so it's a good personal and professional decision.
It's $40 million and Tony has done more than enough to earn that kind of pay that's for sure. Try three Titles and a Finals MVP trophy. Something Nash, Williams, Paul or Kidd have not even come close to sniffing.
Still though Tony is a very effective PG and would be the guy I'd want in a key playoff situation at that position. Tony is a proven winner without a doubt.
actually it is 50 million (12.5 every year for 4 yrs)
it is a little bit of a head scratcher, while a huge spurs fan and i like tony and his game, i dont think he is worth 50m. sure last year he was injured most of the season but i dont see him regaining the form he had the season before last. now 40m would have been more like it, i think the spurs have been over paying lately. manu got a lot for the back end of his career and he is playing well but is he going to be worth 14+ mil when he is 36 yrs old? i doubt it. jeffersons deal is suspect as well. i mean the guy has a 11m player option when he is 34-35 yrs old. now tony with 50m just IMO to keep him from going to NYC. he will not be tradeable with that contract until his last season IF a team needs to dump cap room.
there have been rumors time with use his ETO after this season and resign for less the nthe 21m he is going to make next season which would be great, and the splitter signing is excellent but tony, manu and RJ are all questionable contracts at best.
So far he is off to his best start i think. Havent looked at any stats over the past years this early but im liking what I do read about him. Good thing too, cause as a Spurs fan its up to Tony now, not Duncan to carry the team.
