Good points in both of those posts.

Without question Mutumbo, while a tough physical player, is one heckuva guy off the court.

I had a co-worker that used to make fun of how he talked etc.
I would ask him how he would sound speaking his 7th best language.

One of the smarter players in NBA history....they'd do well to roust Billy Hunter and his family from operating the NBA players union and replace him with a guy like that.

For someone with a name like Metta World Peace this is the last thing I'd expect him to do

I hope the Lakers get Big D for the first round. The Mavs will go w a smaller line up and smack the crap out of the Lakers. The Lakers will be out fast w/o Chaos. Too bad he had to act like a maniac and go back to the nutt formerly known as 'Artest'...More like Arrest. Im also curious about all of these past suspensions that everyone tries to compare this too? I would like to see a past gif that is equal to what happened here when the ball was not in play. The replays are so obvious to everyone. I think the penalty is fine for what happened, but in Rons 'head'case....The dude shouldnt be playing ball and work for charity, maybe get another rename?

my point is while i dont think 7 is enough, i also think that people are going a bit over board with the scenario because of who it is and his perceived image/reputation.

mutombos elbow where notorious BUT he was/is such a huge "nice guy" always helping people and and children and what not that he sorta got a pass. that list is actually a short list.

you talk about mutombo letting his pride get the best of him, and yet artest let his emotions get the best of him, whats the difference?

how about jason smith getting 2 games for his foul on the NBA golden child blake griffen? that long enough?

how about eduardo najera literally getting his scull cracked open on an elbow and that guy didnt even get a foul called.

my point once again is people are taking artest as a thug because of his image and his personality. there is not 2-5 people on this board now that can say they would not stand up for themselves if someone threw a beer all over you. and if you are the type to not stand up for yourself then come here cause i got a beer i want you to prove it. sure he has mental issues (already documented) and sure he has a terrible PR guy (if he even has one) but IMO a lot of people are blowing this WAY out of the spectrum of reality. i think the nba looked at everything and i think they took PART of his history and fined/suspended him partially on that and partially on the "what if that was someone else not artest throwing the elbow" and split the difference. had that elbow been from kobe he would have gotten 2 games max, and he has brough as much or more heat to the nba then artest in the past.
Like you said, we cannot/should not compare Artest to anyone else.

As for why we should take someones history into consideration. There's a famous saying that goes, "Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it." Well, the NBA have ignored the history of Artest and low and behold, it keeps repeating itself.

Ask the British if they'd take a do over on how they handled the Germans after World War I. See World War II.

What if he really hurts someone bad some day? Ends their career. Permanently disables them. Should he get 7 games off, that's OK with you?

Just wondering.

Actually, he has been a pretty good citizen off the court minus the deal with the wife back in Sacramento years ago. He could have a short MMA career even at 35 yrs old with proper training. Dana White should jump all over this when Ron retires. Then again, Ron might not want to be associated with anything that involves fighting which could further destroy reputation.
