The older player right now in the league at age 40, Is Tim Duncan retiring or staying put or will he end up on another team or will he retire? whats next for Tim Duncan?
Tim will never end up on another team. #spurforlife
I expect he may opt out and resign, much like what will likely happen with manu (who has already opted out but is expected to sign again)
By doing so, they can free up cap space for the Spurs to go after durant and/or mike Connelly.
Duncan is playing 1 more season, then after this coming season him, ganbilo, parker will retire. And yeah im pretty sure his a spurs for life plus i doubt any team would want him at 40 years old.

I expect he plays one more season also, Manu may play 2, but Parker will play at least 3 maybe even 4 or 5 more seasons.
As for not wanting 40 year old Duncan, no team in the league would turn him away over a couple million dollars. He had a bad season by his standards but how many centers in the league averaged 9ppg, 7 rpg, 2.7apg and 1.3bpg last season? He averaged 12/11/4/2 on a per 36 minute basis.
So while not the 20/11/4/2 Duncan of old, he is still very effective on a limited basis that can help any team

True. Most any contending team would DROOL at the chance to have a Tim Duncan playing 15mpg for them. This is a guy that knows what needs to be done and his minutes will be solid and smart.
Per 36 is pretty useless for someone like Duncan. He couldn't play 36 minutes for a season. His numbers probably fall off a cliff after 25 minutes. His playoffs numbers were atrocious. I'd like to see another good run, but who knows what he has left for '17 playoff basketball at 41 years old...could be a net negative.

per 36 is a standard to "balance" comparison of efficiency.
his per 100 possessions is even better. 17.4/14.9/5.4/1.6 spg/2.6bpg
go look at game logs, in most games that he played over 30 minutes this season he was pretty consistently 12/10, 14/9, 10/10
vs okc 2nd to last game of the regular season 34 min 12/9/3/1
2 games before that vs denver 34 min 21/7/2/1
month earlier vs memphis 31 min 16/10/2/4/2
month before that vs utah 32 min 14/11/2/1/1
he wasnt needed to play that many minutes, didnt need to and hes not going to be a 30+ guy ever but the comparison is still relevant to efficiency which is the point.
id venture to say his playoff numbers were as low as they were 1) due to only getting 5 shots per game (aldridge took his shots) and 2) he played an average of 21 minutes per game.
he was a +68 in the playoffs. even if you take away the 2 blowout wins he was still +18 in the playoffs.

Per 36 is often a useless metric. Per 100 possessions, Boban goes for 30/20 shooting 60%.
You can't look at a handful of games and assume an older player could replicate those numbers for an entire season. Perhaps Duncan had some good games on days when his body felt good? For an entire season, Duncan probably gives you decent enough numbers for ~20 mpg, but after that he's probably a net negative more often than not.
Tim was bad in the playoffs - there's just no way around that. Against the Thunder's younger big men he was limited to 6.0 ppg on 36% shooting. That's just awful. The Spurs could've maybe won that series with a little more help in game 2 (Duncan = 1-8, 2 pts, 28 minutes) and game 5 (Duncan = 1-6, 5 pts, 28 minutes). If you're a Spurs fan, gotta feel like you're playing with fire if expecting anything out of Duncan in the playoffs at 41 yo. Playoffs are really what it comes down to for the Spurs...everybody knows they'll win 50+ regular season games.

The point is though 40 years old, still very productive. More so than a large portion of the centers in the league. Nobody is claiming he's a 30+ minute a night guy, but he's still better on a 20 minute basis than 75% of the centers out there. In addition, he wasn't an offensive minded player (really never has been like say Malone or shaq) but his sole purpose was to center the defense along with Leonard. I'd say he was very effective considering the Spurs had a near historic defense in 2016.
So by Duncan of old standards he's fallen off a great bit, he is still better than 75% of his counterparts.
