I might be moving to BR area and have a question about air quality. I see that BR is on the Top 10 List of worst air quality. Is this basically right in BR or the whole area? I assume most of the pollution comes from the petrochemicals? Also, how is the oil spill affecting you healthwise? I know it is a severe blow to the economy. Are there a lot of people with respiratory illnesses due to the pollution? I ask because I have lung disease.

The oil spill hasn't done anything to change the environment in Baton Rouge. Baton Rouge does have some days in the summer that are classified as "unhealthy for sensative groups"--and that would be you. As someone with sensative health, you would be advised to spend time in air conditioning during the hottest hours of the day.

Not that #25 for Ozone is really that much better, but BR is not in the top 10 of anything I've seen. BR/LA problem is "ozone days." At one point the air had maintained below the CAA limits for attainment, but then after adjustment BR fell back into a nonattainment area, meaning stricter rules on plants, vehicles, etc. Truth of the matter is, on a hot humid day without "ozone day" conditions a healthy guy can get short of breath without too much effort.

I find the air quality very bad around the LSU area,I to have lung problems and the air quality at times is so bad I go days with out leaving the house. What I find that really disturbs Me is the amount of dust that settles on everything outside in My yard.and it gets in this older home also and I find it to be a dust that seems to have a petroleum substance mixed in with it.We bought a pressure washer and I wash everything I can every two months or so.I know that the Dogs in the yard stir up some of the dust and the what I call stupid people that park two wheels of there car on the grass rain or shine , but i wonder where the rest of it come from . I can smell the paper Mill ,the creosote plant and the coffee among others when they load or unload ships in the port of baton rouge, especially when the wind is out of the North. It is not this way yr. round but for the sick and elderly it is a current problem ,only time will tell the real story for the healthy people.

There are MANY chemical and oil company plants around Baton Rotten. They've even bought up homes and land around the plants.

The air quality isn't good. Just because you can't see it, doesn't mean it isn' there.

Since you're such an expert, then I guess you can explain the report that I forwarded to fb. You could also see with just a little research that the air quality in BR is actually better than that in Birmingham, AL. I'm not saying that the air quality is perfect everyday, b/c it's not, but your little tree hugging rear end is nothing but a freaking hypocrit. Complain about industry, but have no problem using what it makes. Complain about industry, but benefit from the income it brings to the population/state/country. Get over yourself.

They purchased that land to create a buffer zone to keep people from living too close to their operations.

If they hadn't have bought those homes, you would've been damning them for not buying them. That's just the way you are. Very very negative person. Yes you are!
