Hi, my partner and I (along with our toddler) are looking to relocate next year and are considering the areas around Baton Rouge. I'm most interested in Central and Zachary; does anyone know gay couples/families living in those areas and, if so, how welcome/not welcome they feel there? I've read great things about both cities but want to make sure that my family will be comfortable there. Not looking for nightlife or pride parades or anything like that, just a home with a big yard and good schools for our son to attend. Thanks for your help!

I'm fairly sure you will be fine. Especially if you chose to not live in a subdivision where there are many more people that can observe your lifestyle. People are crazy everywhere you go, so no one will be able to guarantee anything. But these are more conservative areas, so in general most people won't approve, but they most likely won't voice those opinions.

Thanks for the feedback. I can handle conservative; I just don't want too much awkwardness, if that makes sense. If you have any thoughts as to better/worse areas of both places, please let me know; I've never been to either. Thanks again!

I don't remember much about Zachary as far as specifics, but I think I would chose Zachary over Central. And I don't know much about Central to give you any insight there.

Thanks for getting back to me; maybe I'll take a road trip out there and give them a look.

Great to hear that! I was thinking about taking a drive over there and looking around; anything you can think of that I should see while there?
