Stay away - across Ardenwood is the worst part of Mall City. Plus, these are low income housing.

But, across Florida Boulevard is an absolutely lovely neighborhood chock full of 1940s and 1950s ranches.

Which are surrounded by some less than desirable neighborhoods. Which is why we do NOT recommend people move north of Florida unless they want to plan to live in Zachary or Central.

Part of the 'problem' of moving to Baton Rouge is a matter of learning the neighborhoods and finding a good place to 'fit'.

I had an old co-worker move to BR from Portland, Oregon. He ended up off of Millerville, and remained frustrated for months. He later relocated to Southdowns and within a month told me that he'd never had so many friendly people in his entire 7 years in Oregon.

Agree - Baton Rouge is a gumbo of neighborhoods that may or may not be changing for the better/worse. That is where this board comes in for feedback

Seriously, though, someone coming from Oregon would have found a Sothdowns type neighborhood WAY more congenial than something east of Airline.

The reason this is the case, in soundbite terms, is that there are really "three Baton Rouges": (1) North BR - more blue collar in mindset, (2) South BR - more white collar, but even here, you have a split between engineer/self employed business types east of Airline, while west of Airline/south of Florida, it's more lawyers/academics/government employees/preppy types, (3) Black Baton Rouge - of different economic strata, but in general lower income. Not knowing this basic layout of our town may end up in a neighborhood not to their liking.

Why did your friend have a problem off millerville? Which part of millerville? I am looking at a few places off Fountainbleu, and while the neighborhood isnt perfect it didnt appear too bad.

My Mom lives off of Millerville , near the LOWE'S . It's a decent neighborhood .

Fountainbleau is preobably OK, but I'm not crazy about (1) the duplexes on Old Hammond between Flannery and Millerville, (2) Blvd De Provence's being downt he road, (3) the triple deckers/duplexes on Flannery that are pretty much in the backwayd of that subdivision.

Most of the subdivisions on Millerville are fine. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them.
