Today might not be a good day to ask about weather, but....

I have a job offer in Bend:
  • For more trees and higher elevation, are the Three Rivers and Sunriver areas my best starting points?
  • Just me, single guy, REALLY want to get into nature within a half hour of Bend. Trees over desert.
  • Within an hour of bend, what might be an optimal spot for the most FOG and SNOW in a heavily tree'd (not a word) area?
  • Basically, I'm looking for Sleepy Hollow with a long snow season.
Thanks!

Sunriver isn't really within a half hour of Bend, not in the winter, anyway. For more trees and snow, go up in elevation and west/southwest in direction. Out near Tumalo State Park, for instance. Three Rivers, as far as I can make out, is pretty much just La Pine, which is further south than Sunriver is.

The mountains around Bend have a long snow season. Bend itself doesn't because it snows and then melts. Fog just isn't that common.

You would need to be above 5,000' to have continuous snow on the ground. There is no year round housing at that elevation within 30 minutes of Bend. As far as forested/trees you can find that right in Bend on the SW side plus that is the closest to Mt. Bachelor ski area and other snow parks.

You want snow.... You want trees and you want 1/2 hr to bend....
Go down the 97 south towards La Pine
Take State Recreation Road..... towards la pine state park
Make a (R) on Foster RD, I think it is 2 - 3 miles From the 97(about 1/3 mile before the la pine state park entrance)
Make 1st (L) on Silver Fox down This will take you to a small community (DRRH 6).
I lived there for 2 years and we had snow (lots of snow) all winter..... Oh, you better like COLD as it gets really cold there (I seen it get down to -21 in 2009)

Know exactly where you're talking about. Dated a girl who's parents lived in there. Wasn't the most exciting area to be in, but I can see where it had it's charms. Being snowed in for days on end wasn't a huge turn on for me either.

But I agree that it'll fit the OP's wishes.

Sunriver is absolutely within a half hour of Bend, even in the winter. We don't often get fog. Not sure there is a place close that meets your criteria.
