OK, not everybody, but my son has 2 rentals and I have one and all three of those tenants gave notice within 4 days of each other. Ack! Vacancies over the holiday season.

Use it to your advantage. Maybe it's a good time to do some improvements you've put off?

I'd be curious to know whether they are just moving to a new place or actually moving out of the area.

My brothers is empty again also. Right in Bend. They moved to Arizona this time. No notice. The last tenent before that was evicted for not paying the rent. Some days you just can't win.

A sure sign that our economy here in Bend is still struggling, to say the least. In the 4.5 years I've lived here, 3 of our close couple friends have left due to jobs (or lack thereof), and at least 2 other couples we know by association have left to pursue other jobs. It's a really hard place to make it permanently right now.

Vacancy rate is supposed to be 3%, so it shouldn't be too hard to fill the vacancies. The problem that I have is that I get tons of applicants but none of them can qualify to rent. Lots of home seekers in Bend have felonies, no verifiable income, a couple of "really sweet" pitbulls, or genuinely horrifying landlord references. So I get to waste dozens of hours of my time showing the house to people who don't have the slightest hope of getting accepted, but are sure that they can put enough lies on the application to fool me into taking them.

The Real Estate Agents would try to make you believe otherwise.
