Last year when we were in Durango Colorado we got to eat at an organic farm. This was a very nice experience. We will be in Bend this summer and I was wondering if there was a similar thing?

Not that I know about. The state of Oregon is very persnickety about commercial kitchens and it would have to be a mighty large farm to be able to afford a commercial kitchen.

The organic farms here are small and the growing season is short. The kitchen would sit unused for most of the year.

You should be able to find our local organic growers at the local farmer's market and if you do a little research you should be able to find what restaurants buy from the local growers. Try searching on The Bend Bulletin. That's the sort of story they would do.

There is a new age newspaper sort of thing in Bend and that would be a good place to search. They are given freeby in front of some of the stores.

I can't remember the name of it. If I remember, I will come back and post it. Or maybe someone else knows and will give the name.

Central Oregon Locovore offers up a quarterly community supper, which brings in products for a number of organic farms in the area. Here is the link for info: Central Oregon Locavore

In addition, many restaurants in Bend offer locally grown meats and produce. Most, if not all, are organic and sustainably raised. Off the top of my head you will find local fare at most of the food carts, in addition to 900 Wall, Chow, Spork, Jackson's Corner, Deschutes Brewery, Joolz, and Ariana.

When we were there in May I picked up a little brochure of local grown resources which listed restaurants, farmers markets, grocers, and farms/ranches. Maybe that's what oregonwoodsmoke was thinking of. Anyway, their website is Central Oregon Food Policy Council.

Are you thinking about The Source (maybe called The Source Weekly)?
