We didn't get "hit" where I live - was hoping we would as this was one of the first real-ish looking storms by the radar, but it weakend considerable, after strengthening considerablely, SW of us. It's a common storm path.

Oh the melodrama...

Forty-Five minutes of hail in Sun River today. Now that is what I call a Bend Summer.

A lot of thunder and lightning on the westside of Bend. Some rain too. These are just the ground strikes in the last 2 hours but there were many more cloud to cloud strikes.

Just heard the lightning show was great out east too.

Don't doubt that at all. Sun River always gets hit by storms that miss, or barely hit, us.

That's a lot of hail.

Hopefully no Forrest fires were started.

To me, on the map posted, it doesn't look like any of those lighting strikes are IN Bend. But what'd I know?

For anyone interested, here's the source BendLocal used: http://www.blitzortung.org/Webpages/...=1&subpage_0=1 Great site, but tough to gauge locations well. If anyone has a better detailed lightning strike source let us know (preferably free)!

From my vantage point on the Westside I'd say Bend got plenty of lightning. This is from anther photog taken from the eastside near the butte:

Thunderstorms rip C.O. with lightning, hail

From the deck of the Cabin at Sun River looking South East the sky is like a surrealistic painting.

BTW this doesn't show all lightning, just the ground strikes it detects. There is only one detection device for that network in all of Oregon so not sure about its detection rate, I use it mainly to gauge the leading and trailing edge of the storm which are typically the most active. In my experience I see more lightning when I'm out then that app shows when I check it later. And it doesn't record cloud to cloud strikes of which there were MANY this evening, probably more than I've seen during any other storm. It really lit up hard tonight!

The only other lightning detection network I know of is used by weatherbug.

I'm aware, which is why I used the phrase "lightning strikes". You already made this point/distinction clear on your orginal post with the map.

Pete Alport had a much better view of the storm. Make sure to click the link and see his incredible pic of the storm! Just amazing!

Last night's lightning storm in Bend, OR had bolts striking everywhere. That is Pilot Butte on the lower left, Bend's local driving 360 degree viewpoint, with no cars on top. I'm pretty sure they evacuated everyone because the butte was getting struck. This is one shot from last night. Today will be interesting to read the news and hear the stories of damage done from the storm.
