Nice rhetoric, but no basis in reality.

From the first post of this thread and why we are discussing Bend politics.

Looking at the 2012 Presidential Election Results for precincts located in the Bend city limits I get the following totals -

Obama: 21,002
Romney: 17,750

If you want to double check those totals.

Right. Two years later and the trend is more liberal.

+100

The numbers clearly show that the City of Bend is leaning liberal. Outside the city limits is a different story.

With the majority of the folks relocating to Bend from larger cities from the West coast (Hint all very Blue states) there is only one way Bend can go.

Let's get this thread back on track please. Several data sources have been provided, now it's up to the OP to interpret the information.

FWIW, I don't think being gay in Bend or Sunriver will be an issue at all. I happen to have 2 gay friends, both of which lived in Sunriver at one time. Neither experienced problems because of their sexual orientation.

I also believe Bend is definitely leading more & more democratic, especially compared with the surrounding towns and also compared with where I moved from 6 years ago. We certainly are more in the middle politically speaking but it will be interesting to see how things change as the city grows.

Okay, lots of interesting information about voters and parties.. I hadn't thought of it in quite that way.

True, my original question was based on the assumption that Bend proper would be more liberal-leaning, while we had no information about Sun River.

I did conflate the issue of gay-friendly with politics so that was my fault. Mostly we want to be engaged with our neighbors and not plunk down money in order to live in an uncomfortable situation.

Further beyond that we happen to be more left-liberal and not libertarian as far as politics goes. (and not registered to either party)..(shrug). Oh, and also not religious at all.

Sunriver--or the Three Rivers--seemed much more small/intimate as opposed to the more people (urban density) less intimate in Bend.

We will continue to visit, continue to make connections in Bend, continue to hike, ski, drink good beer, and educate ourselves on how we might fit into the community in the future!

In that case, if you can afford it, Sun River is the better choice, but the only night life is the country club and a restaurant, and both are pretty straight.
