Don't know why (maybe the very mild winter) but the ticks are abundant right now. I found one earlier this week and figured it was a fluke, but then I found another after walking around COCC. And then one of my fellow photogs pulled 3 ticks from a dog after hiking on the DRT and a dozen ticks off himself after hiking to Tumalo Falls. Yuck!

Check self and animals after hikes. I'm using DEET until they disappear.

Thought I left them behind in VA.. There were always huge numbers of ticks there and Lyme Disease was wide spread. It was common for me to remove 10 to 20 ticks after a walk. Animals would be covered with them. My dog had it and had to be treated with major antibiotics. Hope this is not a sign of things to come here? Maybe just the crazy warm winter? Sure hope for more normal weather next winter.

Lyme disease isn't as common in Oregon as other parts of the country, but some ticks in Oregon do carry it. Frontline works very well for keeping off the ticks; we don't have any tick issues with our dogs when using it.

Me too. Hate em. It's not uncommon to see one or two during the spring if you are an avid outdoors person, but this year its just crazy. I recently found one climbing on the fabric in my car. Ugh!
