I intend to move to the Hilo area and need suggestions on a location
(Work also)

This was a great Moderator cut: Sorry, but personal blogs are not allowed here.for info too, but maybe right down to a 1bedroom/studio right where Hilo starts to get less busy and noise levels start to fall off. ($575-750.)

Do I have to still out a application as I hear can be a nightmare?

Puna would be nice but maybe later, the drive would bug me and the continuing road work reports and hard to enter traffic issues.

Mahalo

Lots of them listed in the local newspaper:

http://www.hawaiitribune-herald.com/...fieds/rentals/

Jobs are another story entirely. Nursing/dental, etc. not much of a problem. Other than that, there isn't squat. The largest temp agency has SEVEN job openings (mostly medical). Jobs tend to first go to locals with a local history, etc. As a transplant, you will be viewed as mostly undesirable for hiring.
Companies will not want to hire you, train you and watch you crawl back to the mainland in a year or less. If you can transfer with a mainland company, do that.

I live just 1/2 mile up the hill from Downtown. The only time noise is an issue is for about 1/2 hour in the morning and 1/2 hour in the evening but my windows are facing the street and it's not that big of a deal. It's a great place to start out because there are enough stores close by (don't have a car yet so getting around can be a pain) and Honoli'i beach is just 2 miles up the road (like 15 minutes on a bike). I'm renting a room for $400 - $500 a month and having someone here to ask directions, best place to get something etc is convenient.

How do you like sharing a house?
I hope I can something that's on a good piece of land if possible for even more privacy.

Divided on how I like it. I tend to be a hermit so it forces me to be more social and since I didn't know anyone here when I showed up it helps. But I've been living on my own for the last 20 years and sometimes I get irritated that they don't do things the way I'm used to doing them lol.

For the most part it's working well but more than likely I'll end up in my own apartment in the next year.
