See how easily we are entertained on the Big Island...

From today's Tribune Herald, these excerpts, emphasis mine:

Safeway hiring for new Hilo site
by Peter Sur
Tribune-Herald Staff Writer
Published: Wednesday, January 26, 2011 10:52 AM HST

"Store that will have bank, Starbucks set to open in March
The new Safeway store in Hilo is opening in two months, officials confirmed, and the company is now accepting employment applications"...

"We typically employ 200-plus folks at a store this size and we're always looking for talented employees to join our team," said Safeway spokeswoman Susan Houghton in an e-mail. "Interested applicants can visit our website at Safeway Careers to learn more about our jobs and apply, or request an application from our store customer service center."...

... "When the store opens, shoppers will find a half-completed Makaala Center, because the other anchor store, a much larger 154,242-square-foot Target, will not be open until July 24.

Houghton said the Safeway side will offer an in-store Bank of Hawaii branch, a pharmacy, a Starbucks, a China Express and its own seafood, meat and bakery departments."

Good for Hilo. Nice to see 200 extra jobs. Everything helps.

I would've preferred to see a Sam's Club or a Costco be constructed instead; however, considering what used to be there, Target and Safeway are an improvement.

This isn't "new" news. They have been building it since last Spring.
They (Target) advertised for supervisor jobs in late December, at up to $18hr.
Safeway is simply moving one block and into a bigger building.

Eeuwe! Not another big box store! Safeway is bad enough but some sort of other Walmart is just ick! How much population do they think we have on this island, anyway? Haven't they noticed that every time they make a new shopping center the old one dies? What is Safeway planning on doing with their old building? Was it leased? Doesn't this tell you something about the quantity of shoppers in Hilo? Oh well, the old shopping center turned into County offices, wonder what the old mall will turn into?

I don't shop often at any of them, only when I need something specific I can't find elsewhere. But at least Target hires top designers to design their cheap Chinese imports. Kinda funny now to see Walmart trying to copy them now.

And that, of course, is not the problem of the developer. Which is why they do it.

Not yet. They are looking for a tenant to replace them now, since their lease still has years to run.

You have become the equivalent of a spammer on the Hawaii forum
- posting on every single thread whether you know anything about the subject or not. Maybe you should stop telling people to use punctuation and their shift key as well?
