Volcano is a famous and very active artists colony, with permanent galleries, several seasonal shows, and a Studio Tour and Art Sale during the holidays that people come in from the mainland to attend.

This weekend 11 potters will be showing (and selling) their work at the Volcano Art Center. The range is from high-end fine art to wonderful daily-use tableware.

Here's more about it... Volcano Pottery Sale this weekend | Hawaii Tribune Herald

As far as places to see art in Volcano in between special events, there are three of note:

Volcano Garden Arts. 19-3834 Old Volcano Rd. Privately owned gallery. Eclectic collection of indoor and outdoor art, along with beautiful gardens and a zen meditation area in the forest at the rear. Cafe serves excellent gourmet lunches. Heading south on Highway 11 take the Pearl Street exit (first on right) then right on Old Volcano. Volcano Garden Arts : Contemporary Hawaiian Art

Volcano Art Center. 19-4074 Old Volcano Rd. Nonprofit, founded in 1974, the VAC hosts classes, showings, concerts, and nature field trips, and has some pieces on display at their campus, which is at the other end of the village from Garden Arts. http://www.volcanoartcenter.org/

Volcano Art Gallery in the Volcanoes National Park. Housed in an 1877 hotel building near the Park Visitor Center, operated by the VAC, sells fine art as well as handmade crafts, including jewelry, prints, pottery, and furniture. Exquisite work to view as well as to buy, in an interesting historic building. http://www.volcanoartcenter.org/

Admission to all is free, but the last is inside the park, requiring a paid admission or park pass until after 6pm. Check their websites for opening hours and special events.

Went to the pottery sale today. Lots of talent and lots of great pottery. Nothing we liked in our price range, but it was free to look.
