Hello -- I'm coming out in about 12 days now, and every time I check the weather it says widespread haze. Is this normal? Just curious what the current visibility is like. Was hoping for some nice clear days

Kona:

Friday Widespread haze. Mostly sunny, with a high near 84. Light and variable wind.
Friday Night Isolated showers. Widespread haze. Partly cloudy, with a low around 73. Calm wind. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
Saturday Widespread haze. Mostly sunny, with a high near 84. Light and variable wind.

South Point:


Thursday Widespread haze. Mostly sunny, with a high near 81. East wind 10 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.
Thursday Night Widespread haze. Partly cloudy, with a low around 64. East wind around 9 mph.
Friday Widespread haze. Mostly sunny, with a high near 82. East wind 9 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 18 mph.
Friday Night Widespread haze. Partly cloudy, with a low around 63. East wind around 9 mph.

Yep, that's pretty normal. The west and south side of the island are affected by vog (volcanic fog) as the trades blow from the north east. Here's a link to a vog forecast : Vog Measurement and Prediction (VMAP) | Vog Model

The weather the past week has been very trade wind light - even Hilo lately has been pretty dry and I've been able to go on jogs without getting dumped on. Light trade winds do mean more vog.

With that said - 12 days is pretty far out - don't stress about it. A forecast that far out can change quite a lot.
