There was a listing on Craig's List for Hamakua topsoil. That would be a good start, then compost everything green you can get your hands on. There is a New Farmer class at NHERC which is doing a composting class right now. They came by to pick up some bunny berries (rabbit manure) to add to their compost pile.

We have soil on our lot so that's a good base to start from, but we've had even better luck gardening by stacking up three layers of concrete blocks into a raised bed garden. That has been filled with topsoil and then the top eight inches of that has loads of bunny manure dug into it along with all the grass trimmings that have been half composted under the bunny hutch. The garden and yard are doing a lot better after the bunnies have started helping.

For a good compost pile, add in some "bio-char" which is basically charcoal. Get some untreated wood of some type, burn it halfway down and spray it with water so it doesn't completely burn to ash. Mix that with the compost so the soil nutrients will go into the charcoal instead of washing away from all the rainfall. It is a lot like charcoal water filters get the impurities out of drinking water in this case the impurities/nutrients go into the charcoal. The plant roots will then go to the charcoal and get the nutrients they need.

Although I will confess that is a slow way to add soil to a property. But everything green or organic can be composted and added back to whatever soil you've got and it will make a huge improvement.
This is very true. We have a mountain of stuff that will be ground down as soon as we can afford a chipper/mulcher.
