I doubt they're the same.

First, the county governments on the different islands have a lot of leeway in the way they manage their own police departments, motor-vehicle regulations, etc.

Second, previous posts about the Big Island test by a college grad indicated that he found it difficult, and that some of the questions were open ended.

That's sounds a little to easy. I guess I'll find out once I get there, unfortunately.

You HAVE looked to see how much the police officers make here, right?

You can make 2x plus the wages by taking a police job in Alaska. And they actively recruit out-of-staters. Just FYI.

SFPD makes twice what you would make in Hawaii too and that's where I've been lobbying for a job. But, I'm tired of The Bay Area. I want a different pace of life. Everyone here is in a rush to do nothing. I want a slower pace of life.

For my curiousity I guess - If you are a police officer, what part of life is going to be such a slower pace on the Big Island? Is it a perception you don't work as hard? What's slower - I came from the Bay Area, what does that even mean? I'd think in a profession like that - the pace would be the same otherwise you'd be slacking off - no?

Maybe he means a slower pace of life during after work hours. The Big Island certain does offer that! Matter of fact, his wanting go get away from being "in a rush to do nothing" ... here we TAKE OUR SLOW SWEET TIME to do nothing!

Thank you, CyberCity. You said exactly what I was going to. When it comes to work, I'm nothing but being professional and doing my best. But, when it comes to my off time, I want a beautiful island island to enjoy and relax on.

If you move to Hilo, just have a look at who is working for the police, the state, the county, etc. That will tell you everything you wish to know about your chances at being hired, qualifications or not.
