We live about a mile and a half from the garden. We walk to the scenic overlook nearly everyday followed by cooling off at the garden's gift shop. Employee's are super friendly. They welcome everyone with a smile. The gift shop has a brilliant assortment of collectables, candies, books, art. Should anyone be short on time to enjoy the botanical pathways a visit to the store is worth a stop alone. There are lovely picnic areas inside the gate or comfortable seating right outside the gift area. Two considerations if gifting a membership, mosquito's are plentiful at the garden (Rainforest) including a container of repellent could be a fun add on when sending membership. A notable, to access the garden there is an immediate 100ft. drop that is easy enough going down (With sturdy shoes) but killer coming up. (Water is available for sale however bringing your own will be quite a savings) The garden provides complimentary golf cart transportation for individuals (Who may take someone with them as an assistant) along with their manual wheelchair, cane, walker. 95% of the garden is handicap accessible. Oh, anyone wishing not to walk may take a staff driven cart too for only $5 r.t.

Bonus for everyone the Botanical Garden has the cleanest restroom this side of Big Island Candies. building too!

OP didn't return, but I remembered to ask today, and here's the answer for anyone else who might be interested...

The TriPark Pass is produced and managed locally, and is not available on the national website. You can purchase the pass at the front gate of any of the three national parks covered by the pass... Hawaiʻi Volcanoes, and Puʻuhonua o Hōnaunau on the Big Island, and Haleakalā on Maui. For a gift, just inform the ranger and don't sign the pass. The person you gift it to will sign it, and show ID to use it.

To purchase the pass remotely, call the parks fee office at 808 985-6151 with a credit card and the address you want it mailed to, and mention it is for a gift and they will take your order.
