She has done a lot of research on Hawaii and likes warmer weather. Many other reasons too I guess, but mainly she also likes the adventure. If I was thirty years younger, I would already be there. First wife I ever had that wanted to move there. She loves everything she has found out out about Hawai'i.

I am thinking about moving there part time if I can find a vacation home that I could maintain year round and just hop a flight back and forth when we want to.

"If you knew then what you know now, would you have moved to the island sooner? "

No. I still had adventures to live in Alaska. I think my best time in that state were the first five years and the last five years, though the five in the middle were good too. But it was time for me to go. Sick of moving snow, no healthcare, only 47 miles of road, not being able to grow anything... we needed out.

We had decided to move to the Big Island and were working towards that goal when a job opportunity presented itself. The timing was perfect.

Crusoe, was jw how much did you have saved up to be able go. We are planning a trip , my husband, 4children, and myself. My husband hates researching stuff, he says everyone else's negatives will be our predictions, so we will change our minds. I'm scared to leave my father.. And that is the only, only thing keeping me here in kansas. We just got back from a vacation, and even the air is more well serene feeling. Can't wait to share this experience with my children.

"Every day we wake up in disbelief we are living in an ideal heaven on Earth"

"appreciation for the kindnesses we are shown. Each day is truly a gift"

"I would have been living Aloha 10 years ago"

"this island has everything you need"

I'm not really sure what to say about all this. The second post is way over the top.

When folks move to the islands, there is about a year of "honeymoon" phase where everything is over the top with flowers and rainbows everywhere even if just in the imagination. As they settle in, then things calm down a little. Not that Hawaii isn't glorious to live on, but there are drawbacks and a lot of them don't really show up until after the glow has dimmed a little. But overall for most of us here, things are much better in Hawaii than elsewhere. As one integrates into the community, then the drawbacks seem less, too.

There are a few problems with such glowing reports, though. Such as the "forage for food off the land" parts. That might work for an occasional snack, but not for an entire diet. So, you get folks who think they are going to move to Hawaii and live off the land (there was a huge discussion about that on this forum awhile back) or you get folks who expect to move to Hawaii and have it all be dancing unicorns with rainbows twinkling off their horns. Most folks have to work to live in Hawaii just a little bit harder than they have to work where they are now. However, there are a lot of compensations to make up for it so, at least in my opinion, it's well worth it to live in Hawaii. But not everyone likes it here and there's no rainbows glinting off them dancing unicorn's horns, either.

@hotzcatz

Couldnt have said it better, spoken like a true person who is local. I also think Hawai'i is a state of mind and attitude. You can live with aloha almost everyday if you choose too.
