I don't know if this is the right place to ask, but does anyone know of a good psychiatrist in Hilo? This isn't exactly something I want to ask my friends about, so I didn't know where else to go. By "good", I mean one who isn't going to just hear me state a few symptoms, write me a script for Zoloft, and push me out the door.

That's always a tough one. Many of the folks in this field, well, let's just say this....there's a reason they're in that profession! Maybe you'd be better off going to a talk story shrink first (psychologist), and having them make a recommendation for a psychiatrist. Have you tried the usual 800 numbers on this? The Big Island has shortages of all sorts of doctors, and mental health workers are no exception. When I lived there I was in the art world (still am), so I knew a few people that went to one or the other. From what I remember from 10 years ago, which is lot actually, Dr. Heaster on Kinoole seemed to be a positive sort of guy from what my friends said. Like all things medical, it's probably a matter of shopping around until you find a good fit. I'm not sure if he's even still practicing, but since things don't change much in Hilo, he probably still is.
