Planning a vacation to Kona and wondering if purchasing an Entertainment Passbook would be a good idea?

No.

I Googled entertainment book Hawaii and found a review of the 2014 book. I think there were a total of two restaurants and maybe some snorkel rentals.

When you land at Kona airport, there is an area with an Information Desk and a kiosk with "magazines" containing articles, maps, and coupons. These are free and some have useful information.

Hope you have fun.
Aloha

The Kona airport is very beautiful. It has covered areas, yet the breeze can blow through. The kiosk/magazine rack had maybe over a hundred small magazines and travel info booklets. Lots of discounts can be found using those magazines and brochures. The magazine we liked the most was called This Week Big Island. They also make This Week for the other islands. We took a Body Glove cruise, which was very nice and got discounted tickets with the coupon in the magazine. All the magazines and brochures in that kiosk are free.

Here's a link to This Week

Looked up the "Entertainment" book for my locale, Port Saint Lucie, Florida. Seems to just have a bunch of coupons for chain fast food places (Sonic drive in, Quiznos, Steak & Shake). We also have another book, The "Enjoyment" book that carries more coupons for small local-owned restaurants (and some chains). We've been using that one, has many "buy one, get one" deals for local restaurants. Maybe they have a similar book for Hawaii??

Entertainment Books, the kind you pay maybe $25 - 50 for, that give discounts on restaurants and attractions, seem to be a fading phenomenon in the internet era, when better offers seem to pop up every day online which don't require any advance investment in order to view. And as others have pointed out, the free coupon books available at airports and hotels are quite popular.

They were always tricky to get your money's worth out of anyways, even if you had a whole year to use them. With only a week or two to use them on vacation I should think it would be quite difficult.
