My dogs love to swim. Any recommendation on where I might be able to take them? Some secluded beach that is not too difficult to get to (we are willing to walk a few miles)?

I will keep them leashed if necessary and go in the water with them.

Kaimu; at Kalapana, about 1000' from the road, sandy beach, but there is a rip, so be careful. Bring water.

What part of the island are you on, OP? The Big Island is BIG, and I'm not sure that you want to drive three hours to take your dogs to the beach.

Down near South Point, where I live, people take their dogs to Whitington Beach. There are other secluded beaches on the south end of the island, but they are at the end of rigorous drives in a 4-wheel drive vehicle or ATV.

I am in Waimea. Two hour drive would be my max but would prefer something for under an hour. Also we may be bringing a 1 yr old so (who will be in a carrier) if we don't have to climb down rocky cliffs that would be great. If not we will have to find a sitter. I would love if my dogs have fun in the ocean too, after that long ass flight I put them through

Our vehicle is AWD so this may help.

Please keep in mind that on Hawai'i Island your dog must have a license and wear it. And in public places it must be on a leash at all times, a leash not more than 6' long. And that even on a leash dogs are not allowed on any County beach park. There are no "dog-friendly" public beaches.

Yeah, I know lots of people ignore the law and do whatever they want, and enforcement is lax, but this is what the law is.

Easy to read details can be found here... http://www.pualaniestatesatkona.com/...hip4172012.pdf
Or if you like wading through the actual language of the laws, you can find them here...
