Hey, I can't seem to find a good private mailbox rental company in Hilo where I can forward some of my mail to in Hilo before I move there. Does anyone have experience with or know of any? thanks.

I don't use them, but there's Postnet on Puainiko and Mailbox Plus on Kinoole.

Also, you can have mail forwarded or sent to the Post Office of choice and they'll hold it for pickup for 30 days.

I'm pretty sure you send it to:
"your name"
General Delivery
"Post Office of your Choice"
"City", "State"
"ZipCode"

Fill in between the quote marks as appropriate.

As I understand it, the general delivery has to be setup ahead of time, or else they will return it. Also as I understand it, this can be done over the phone, but you have to call the actual local post office where the mail will be held for pickup.

When we knew we were moving, but weren't sure when, we got a PO Box on the island while on vacation (you can only get a PO Box IN PERSON. Though you can sign up and pay for one online, they won't give you the exact box number to you exept in person when you get the keys) . PO Boxes vary in cost a lot by location (expensive near the airport, cheaper in Volcano) and in other areas there is no availability but they do have a waiting list.

As things turned out, we had to move here kinda suddenly, and it was a great relief knowing that we had a pre-established mailing address to forward bills and big boxes of parcel post stuff on our way out.
