Is there some time of the year,
when there is the least amount of haze or clouds between Maui and the Big Island?
Is there some satellite/weather patten to look for that might suggest a less hazy time might be coming?

Most of that haze is VOG, from the volcano.

What are you doing in the Alenuihaha channel anyway? That's a dangerous stretch of water.

I like looking across the channel from the Big Island,
and am just wondering if there is a time/season when the haze/vog is less.

Well, it's caused by vog from Halemaumau and Pu'uo'o vents over on the Volcano/Puna/Ka'u side, so when the wind blows trades, I'd guess that's when most of the vog goes Kona side? So, perhaps wintertime when we have more Kona winds instead of the trades, there might be more of a chance of less vog. But, vog is vog and it's gonna do whatever it wants to.

Thank Hotzcatz, I am learning about the Vog.
So I'll watch for the times of "Kona winds", and see if it is less haze.

As I recall, the vog on Maui is worst during the winter when the prevailing Trade Winds from the northeast abate and the Kona winds blow, from the south and southwest.

I guess we'll all be looking forward to your reports.
