Price may be a little high, but otherwise, that house is a perfect example of the ideal architectural design for Hawaii. Big overhangs, lots of shaded lanai, more emphasis on the people inside the house than the house itself. Beautifully done sugar cane camp house restoration.

I'd guess the house is a bit newer than the twenties, the boards seem awfully narrow for it to be twenties. Even in the fifties, they were using 1" x 8" vertical boards, so perhaps sixties? And I'm not sure about the price, but I don't track properties on that corner of the island. It does look like a nice house although if it were me, I'd probably want a nicer kitchen layout, but we can't see much of it, either so maybe there's more we can't see.

The OP did mention they wanted to buy and stay put forever, so one would think they'd be concerned about hospitals and the best one is in Waimea, IMHO. With the asking price of that house, they may be able to look at properties up near to the best hospital.

Your not being realistic. You have a good possibility of ending up like a lot of people who move here. Either asking for assistance via a CL post or doing a go find me page to move back. Hawaii is a dream that can become a financial reality if your not carful. It's not getting cheaper. The prices here are close to the Bay Area prices here although foods more expensive. Put it this way, you will need to make a decent amount of money here to pay your bills, insurance, health insurance and property tax, ect. So you don't become another person to move here and become a burden on the overly worked assistance programs.
