Many of us run our ceiling fans at full speed at night. That way as the centipedes climb up our blankets from the floor, we can quickly pluck them off and throw them into the air where they are chopped into small pieces that are easy to sweep up in the morning.

Electricity is uber expensive. Ceiling fans are cheaper and work well if you have a house with good flow. For some reason, many newer homes (well, newer 15 years ago now, I guess) were built without the good airflow concept. Those homes tend to have a/c, ime. Ceiling fans are great!

We don't have air conditioning, so use the ceiling fans, and a couple of free standing fans instead. We don't feel ac is needed. We didn't have a ceiling fan in our kitchen, so I took out a light ficture, and installed a celing fan with a light in that kitchen. My wife loves it, especially when she's cooking. I had replaced ceiling fans before, but never installed one where a light was before. We have an open beam and sloped ceiling in there, so it was a bit trickier, and I'm no electrician. It worked out fine, and the blades don't hit the beams.
