Maui is a really pretty island, don't you think? Most of the inexpensive places on the Big Island could be over run by lava since they're over near the volcano so you'd be safe from lava on Maui. And no brain parasites is a plus.
Craigslist and trulia mostly. I like that about Maui. Less opportunity for housing it seems though.

Really? If that is the case, I can make a living suing all the landlords in HI. Ha ha.

I know many families who rent homes in the South Point area. Many are simple and cheap. They find those rentals through a variety of sources.

Not even sure if an Ohana is legally classified as a separate unit or just a bedroom in a house. There are not many laws in HI though. At lest not enforced. Buying on the BI actually is not that bad. But It's been a while since I lived in HI. And that was Oahu. So very different I would imagine. Would like to settle in somewhere for a year or two and scope something out. Something
The reason that they are called federal laws is that they include all 50 states. Hawaii is a state, so they do abide by the rules. The only rental ads that I saw where children were not allowe is in senior housing units, designed for only seniors. I do not see anywhere any ads in Hawaii that doesn't allow children. What are you looking at?
