Zillow can net it out for you - median in Hilo the past year up about 7% and Kona about 3.5%

Sign up for Harry Pritikin's free email digest. He summarizes all the data you are referring to on monthly email on one of the weekends:

(I'd post the last one here, but I've tried before and the tables don't cooperate so it comes out as garbage)

Default Big Island Market Statistics Monthly Report

Aloha Steve,

Thanks for the plug. You know you can search the MLS data base from my website too!

Zillow sucks. It's an algorythm not a person. Hawaii Information service provides the data compiled by it's statisticians right here in Hawaii. There are 9 districts on the Big Island for which data is compiled: North & South Hilo, Puna, Hamakua, North & South Kohala, North & South Kona and Kau. The data from HIS includes land, residences, condominiums, commercial and businesses.

Looking at the median sales price for residences only, for South Hilo, prices from January 1 to July 31, 2017, compared to the same period in 2016, declined 1.93%. In the Puna District prices rose 15.79%. For North Kona prices rose 6.14%, South Kona decreased 12.24% (that's a mind blowing surprise to me!).

Mahalo, Harry M. Pritikin R(BIC)

I would suspect that the lava that isn't eating Pahoa anymore may have some bearing on the changes in the numbers. Now that folks seem to think Puna isn't gonna be cut off by lava anymore, the house prices have gone way up from when the lava was creeping toward them. Pele may just be waiting, guess we will find out in a decade or two.
