Oahu is home to about a million or so people and is full of economic development, but why not Big Island? I mean, it is the biggest island, wouldn't people want to move and create business there? I'm sure there is a reason and I'm just oblivious to it.
If someone could create some glorious business on the Big Island (or Maui/Kauai) then someone would've done it. Lack of infrastructure certainly comes to mind besides the other things mentioned previously.
Oahu has the only port (Honolulu harbor) that the big super freighters can use, none of the other islands have any ports that can be accessed by ships of that size so that defaults Oahu as the central island, pretty much no matter anything else.
