Before doing anything

Make sure the car is in the sellers name. If it isn’t then the person selling it needs to have specific POA to sell the car for the registered owner. If the owner is deceased they need to give you a original death certificate. Otherwise it’s a illegal sale.

Take it to a mechanic unless you know cars and what to look for.

Most of the time you can’t see everything on a car without having it on a lift.

It’s worth the $100-$150 to have it checked out. Take it to a shop of your choosing that isnt too close to the sellers house.

and how, when you come to retire in Hawai’i you will come packing all your Mainland guns and ordinance.

Several peeps, including me, a former LEO from NJ.. and much higher on the Law Enforcement food chain (NJ/ NY Fugitive Task Force) than a uniformed beat Cop like you,

Mr. Magoo: The reality is, you know nothing about me other than the few posts I have made here on CD. You know nothing about my story as I know nothing about yours. You do not know me and I do not know you. You think you can sum me up based on my career and the few opinions I have had here. Well, to do that is the height of ignorance and foolishness. Maybe the best thing to do is if you have nothing of substance to add other than be rude to a poster; use the teeth God gave you and cage your tongue with them.

If I want to apply to a police department on the BI or any of the Islands, that is for me to decide, not you. For I alone know what is best for me and my family. If a police department there wants to pick me up, that is their decision, not yours.

Please explain, what does a police officers race have a thing to do with anything? I would love to know. What difference does it make if I am white, Black, Hispanic, Asian, Indian, Native American, or Hawaiian?

I’m not sure what you mean by getting into people’s business as a police officer? Last time I checked, that is not the function of a police department. The purpose of a police department is to keep and make peace through enforcing the law, resolving calls for help and disputes, to preserve liberty, maintain safe driving conditions, and fill out accident reports. In our nation which would include Hawaii, police departments do not target people, but rather target crimes. So when a crime is committed, police target that crime and find the person or persons connected to that crime. It is absolutely unconstitutional for the police to target people and then find a crime. There is this thing called due process and such tactic would be in violation of such right to due process. So I really do not understand what you mean by police getting in people’s business, especially a Haole from NYC? The only time police get in ones business is if they invite the police into their business. I have never had contact with an individual that either didn’t ask to have that contact with me or didn’t do something for there to have been that contact. In this universe there is this thing called cause and effect. So what this basically means is if someone calls the police, I respond. If someone commits a crime, I respond. If someone speeds in front of me, they get pulled over and is possibly written a ticket. Because I am also a human and not just a police officer lot of discretion is most times used. See, I rather get a husband and wife to hug and kiss one another again when called to a domestic than to have to make an arrest. Any cop can make an arrest, but a good cop will get this couple to hug and kiss again. Police do make mistakes and at times these mistakes are tragic, some are minor in nature. But most times police do not make mistakes. As a matter of fact police do their jobs 99.5% of time with the upmost integrity and respect.

With that said, there is no braggadocio for me to bring. There are no stories for me to tell. There is nothing for me to say that’s impressive. The experiences I have had are no different than the experiences experienced by a cop anywhere else in our nation. Some policies, protocols, and laws may be different, but there is nothing I experienced that no cop anywhere else hasn’t experienced. This is why we are a brotherhood and sisterhood all over the world. What I have seen and experienced is for me and me alone. It is my burden to carry, not anyone else’s. I don’t even talk to my wife about work, why would I share my stories or experiences with some other civilian like you?

Maybe you just don’t like cops, full stop.
