Hello!
My wife and I are moving from Lomg Island, NY this January to Keaau to be near our daughter and her family. We have the house being built and are all set in that respect.

What we are looking is advice from anyone who has made the move from NY or the area about moving companies. If anyone have any recommendations on a company to use or not to use, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Hi Kreinke17,

I moved from Northern NJ, (Rutherford area) to Keaau several years ago. I used Reliable Van & Storage based out of Elizabeth NJ. I believe they used Port Elizabeth to ship our belongings and arranged my truck to be shipped via associate company. They were professional and everything arrived intact and on time. Call George VandeLaar, company rep. (908) 277-2432 for an estimate or referral company on your side of the Hudson. Stay warm & Happy Thanksgiving!

E como mai! And how nice to be near family!

Don't forget about relative house sizes. Your new house may not be as large as the one you're moving from, but if you're having it built, perhaps it will match the one you're moving from?

Also, leather will mildew, veneered woods will delaminate, pressboard will turn to oatmeal. But your daughter can tell you all this.

We moved from NJ outside of Philadelphia. We used Kona Container Guy. They have different options; they sent a guy to our home who organized the loading of a 20 ft container and then delivered it to our home here in Waikoloa. We were very happy with the whole process, the price was good. We were very happy with their service.

Hello and welcome! Bring your truck or car if possible, it’s spendy to purchase on the island.

I am from the north east and have visited both LI and Hawaii.

Please don't act like a typical Long Islander when you get to Hawaii. You people already ruined one island don't bring that NY behavior with you. For example off LI NY you actually talk to your neighbors you don't just call the town on each other and all that NY spiteful stuff.

For example when you are in a store you get to know the person at the register instead of tapping your foot impatient then doing the transaction wile on your cell phone NY style as if the person is a vending machine.

Most New Yorkers are not how you describe them. I know a few people from New York metro area who moved to Hawaii and fit in fine.

Sorry, I really meant Long Islanders. Big difference from NYC people. Is not LI is the absolute epicenter of every bad trait of the north east stereo type ?

I am just having fun here, the typical Long Islander doesn't pick up and move to Hawaii.
