Aventi,
Sent you a direct message. But we made 3 trips before moving over; 1 to look, 1 to close escrow, and one for Xmas and New Years. Then we moved in February

Almost. It is where you are a "resident." You can spend 10 months a year in Hawaii and claim Nevada as your primary residence and then you pay no state income tax. Of course, Hawaii can audit you and decide you are a resident; then you would have to fight it out in court.

I'm a CPA and planning my move to Kona in November.

Sure - you can claim anything - it doesn't make it legal. If you worked 10 months of the year in Hawaii and are a resident of Nevada you owe Hawaii taxes as a non-resident. Hawaii doesn't have to prove you are a resident - they have to prove you did the work physically in Hawaii so they get the non-resident cut.

This is an easier example - If you live in Incline Village Nevada but work in Truckee California - all the money worked in California is taxed as a non-resident. California doesn't let you wash your hands of the taxes.
