We pick up the occasional sushi tray at KTA but that's not the same as a sushi place. There just doesn't seem to be as many of them like Honolulu has. There is a small one just down from Garden Exchange in Hilo, but I don't know if they have a liquor license and they aren't all that fancy. They used to be across the street and they switched sides awhile back.

Restaurant Miwa in the Hilo Shopping Center has my favorite. It's mostly family dining, but there is a bar area. Not fancy, but I go there for sushi and miso soup and am never disappointed!

Several people have said good things of restaurant Miwa, perhaps we will have to go there next time we are in town. I haven't had good sushi in awhile. Has anyone tried the Japanese restaurant by Suisan? I'd think they would have really fresh fish there.

In Kona, Wasabi's on Alii Drive, and Hayama's in the Kopiko Plaza are excellent.

Are you talking about Nihon? I've been there a few times. Everything was good. I'm not sure why we don't go more often...I think Miwa is just feels a little less crowded on busier nights? If I remember correctly, there are some old photos and items on display when you go up the stairs at Nihon. A sushi bar, too, back in the restaurant.

yep. it's nihon restaurant. the sushi is just OKAY. nothing spectacular. also, the food seems to be better during the evening rather than at lunch time.

i think the one across the street from garden exchange is called ocean sushi? no liquour license. i like their sushi better than nihon's although it's not very authentic.
