I'm visiting only the Big Island in July. I just sold my house on the beach very cheap to get out from under if you know what I mean. The buyer got a GREAT deal, and I was happy to see him get it. I know he paid well under the SUPPOSED market price, but NOBDODY else was buying so I'm grateful to him. He did not need to buy and is just speculating. In the last 3 weeks, the price has actually gone down in the area!
I need a bargain lot; somebody who just wants or needs out now should let me know. I can't spend much as I need the remainder to build a home as I'm retiring and will only have a limited income. If ANYBODY has something lower than ALL the MANY other lots in their area, and it is not all lava, let me know!
You are coming to the Big Island at a very good time to find deals. There are subdivisions on the island where lots are selling for under 20K...it just depends on how big you want the lot to be and what area will suit your personal needs.
To give you an idea of the market right now, a quick search of the MLS shows these lots as the lowest priced in these subdivisions:
Currently, the lowest listed price for a vacant lot in Hawaiian Beaches is $28,000. Keep in mind that it will be a while (a year, give or take...) before many of these lots can connect to water...Are you considering building?
A quick check on HIS shows that there are 221 active land listings in HPP, the lowest priced is at $48,000. Sales that have closed since 8/1 range from $45,000 up to $70,000. (Of course, location is the determining factor...how close to the water or if the lot is a view lot...)
Been there, did that. I've considered moving to Hawaii as the "worst case" scenario. Why not die in paradise?
Anywhoo, here are all the listings at craigstlist for Hawaiian real estate under 50K. I've seen small unpermitted houses for sale in this range and less.

I own a 1acre property at HPP on 8th avenue. Can also sell for half acre. Send me an email so we can talk. Don't live in Hawaii so selling at low price. Give me an offer. Email ica_dizon@yahoo.com. Veronica Dizon
You're replying to a post that was from 2007 so it's not likely they are either still looking for a lot or that they'd still be checking the post for more information.
Have you listed it on Craig's List? That might be a better chance of finding a buyer.
Also, directly after a hurricane may not be the best time to get a good price on a property, but depending on what governmental folks decide about albizia trees, it might be a wise time to not own property with albizia trees on it. I could see eradication efforts being required of land owners and with trees that size, it could get costly, but it would take a long time for the governmental types to get to point of requiring land owners to pay for the tree's removal. Especially in an area that doesn't have deep pockets. So far the land owner's paying for albizia removal is just a mere conjecture on my part, so don't stress out about it.
