Hello,

What's a realistic workday commute from Naalehu/ Pahala area to both Hilo & Kona airports? Thinking about a job there, is it going to be a pain or impossible commuting full-time?

While it's not impossible to commute from Na'alehu/Pahala to Hilo or Kona, I wouldn't do it unless it were absolutely necessary. In either direction, count on being on the road for between 1-2 hours. Taking the free Hele-On bus instead of driving might make the commute more bearable.

Cheers,

Jonah K

Thanks for the answer, I didn't think it was going to be easy, now I know for sure. I had been toying with the idea of possibly working at the Kona or Hilo airport and commuting from a home in the Naalehu / Pahala area. Unless I find part-time work where I can just travel every other day or so, I probably couldn't do it.

Appreciated,

Patrick

Thanks for the bus schedule.

I don't know about Hilo, but Naalehu to Kona airport will take you a lot longer than 2hrs with the morning and afternoon traffic. Plus the cost of gas would make the trip not worth it, unless you get paid really well. I know a lot of people who work at the airport in various different positions and for different companies and can tell you that in all likelyhood that is not a good probability. If I had to live in Naalehu, I'd find a job that pays a little less but allows more free time, thats what retirement should be about anyway right?

So true what you say about the all-elusive retirement we all seek! Thanks for the input, I will reconsider my options. I don't want to end up in eternal traffic jams or endless coummuting.
