I am a retired lady in my 60s and live with my daughter, who is a professional in her late 30's. She does not have any children, so schools are not a consideration with us. We are considering moving to the Birmingham metropolitan area in the next few months.

We are looking for a respectable, safe, very quiet apartment with 2 bedrooms & 2 baths in an upscale area. We can spend about $1000 or so per month for rent.

I would appreciate any suggestions.

Thank you!

Birmingham and its surrounding communities are fairly large. What you posted does not give enough information to respond.

Thank you for your response, Threestep.

I guess I'd better start off by gathering info on the areas that sound best to me, like Vestavia Hills & Mountain Brook, and then ask more specific questions.

Consider commute for your daughter. Birmingham traffic can be daunting.

Do you have any suggestions for a similar area that's nearer in?

I live in an apt complex off of Cahaba River Rd in Jefferson County (Altadena area) just outside of Vestavia city limits. The Parc at Cahaba River. I LOVE this location. It's a very safe, quiet area and super convenient to very nice shopping, grocery stores, etc. It's also very well maintained and nicely lanscaped. When my A/C quit cooling last month, maintenance had it fixed and cooling within an hour. I was really impressed by how quickly they responded. Cahaba Heights is also nice (great location), but the apt complexes there tend to be older. I think they are generally well maintained--but that's something to consider. Try Chateau Orleans in Cahaba Heights or Breckenridge.

There is another nice apt complex just off Acton and Caldwell Mill Rd, but I can't remember the name... If I think of it later, I'll edit this post.

I can't think of the names but I think the one at the summit is the newest-I've not had an apt in years and don't pay attention to the names- you may also want to look into a condo- might be a little nicer-

I think you are referring to Cameron at the Summit.
