Will be in Birmingham for an extended amount of time and was curious of some restaurants. Areas of interest would be Highland Park, Downtown, MountainBrook, Hoover, basically in the southern part of the city. Thank you.

The foodie go-to locations are: Highlands Bar & Grill, Chez FonFon and Bottega (Restaurant side and cafe side) - all Frank Stitt. Chris Hastings' Hot & Hot Fish Club. Ocean is good for seafood. Little Savannah is fun - focus on local ingredients and sometimes has family-style dining. Sol y Luna for tapas. Fish Market (fresh seafood Greek style and traditionl American style). The Pita Stop for Lebanese. More suburban but good are Costa's (Greek/Italian), Petrucelli's (Italian), Superior Grilll (Tex Mex).

These are excellent recommendations. You can't go wrong at these places.

I'd also add Cafe DuPont (Downtown), Satterfields (Cahaba Heights/280), 26 (Five Points area), and Daniel George (Mountain Brook).

I bet Yelp and Urban Spoon would also be an excellent guide.

I would NEVER in a million years consider Petrucelli's on any list of "good" restaurants. You might as well pour Ragu out of a jar at home; it would essentially be the same taste.

I do agree with most of your other recommendations, though!

i've only lived in Birmingham for about 3 months, but i can recommend a couple places. Pita Stop in Cahaba Heights is very good, as is the Saigon Noodle House on 280 if you like Vietnamese. Camp Taco at 5 points is good for a burrito if you are on the Southside of downtown, and Lucy's at University and I think its 20th street has really great panini type sandwiches. Gus's on the northside has a great hotdog if you are in a hurry (and have cash on you). Kool Korner Sandwiches has a terrible name but a great Cuban sandwich. I've heard great things about Saw's barbeque in Homewood but I haven't been there personally. Jim n Nicks and Full Moon are both above average barbeque joints.

I just started working two months ago so I haven't had the spare cash to go anywhere nice yet

If you don't mind venturing out 280, Ginza on Valleydale is excellent.
