That's not a bad area at all. It's a bit of a complex with traffic issues, but pretty convenient. The two of them will be roughly 15-20 minutes from where the music/dining/nightlife, et al, can be found. Hope your son and SO like the city. Tell him to check out Slice Pizza down the street. And Heavenly Donuts.

Relocation is bit off have about 18 months on our lease. Alabama has been brought up in table talk as my Wife is a nurse at the LPN level. WOM is the LPN to RN mobility programs in Alabama mentioned less of a hassle to get accepted/high acceptance rate.

Been considering Alabama.

Not even sure what pay would look like. I work psych and in the ER as a tech. As mentioned Wife is an LPN.

From research started doing hospital system in the Birmingham has a good rep. Also looking at it for the children amenities and activities to do.

Think finding a 4 bed 2 bath home under $300K is doable in the Birmingham area?

Any recommendations what to do for a two day trip to the area if decide to make a trip down?

How's pizza in Birmingham?

Thanks a bunch!

Pizza is good, even if it doesn't live up to NYC standards. Then again, what does?

I'm pretty certain you can get a house in that range.

As far as pay is concerned, Birmingham should be fine, especially when you stack up against COL. And, given how Birmingham has zillions of healthcare jobs, shouldn't be that hard to find a place to land.

As far as things to do, Birmingham has a great restaurant/bar/club scene, although I'm a little old to really concern myself with the latter two. There are museums, performing arts, etc. A lot depends on what you enjoy doing.

We are considering a move from Canton, Ga to the Birmingham area, but we know little about it. What is it like south of the city? Hoover or surrounding area? We like a large yard, but also are accustomed to easy access to grocery, Drs, delivery (grubhub), etc.
Could someone give me an idea of how remote it is, or how far to conveniences? What is drive, traffic like going into the towns or the city?

Most of the prominent suburbs of Birmingham, including Hoover are south of the city along both 459 and 65. Traffic gets exponentially harder the further you go because so that's where most people in the area live. Conveniences are duplicated because there is a run of suburbia down hwy 31/i-65 where several of them run together without any break from Homewood down to Alabaster.

Thanks. Is it congested? We are trying to avoid traffic lock. It's a difficult move, but we need to be closer to family along the coast, but we won't go back close enough to be in the middle of hurricanes again. We lost 1 home down there. Birmingham area is one of few metro areas that seem like a possibility.

Would Bessemer or Hoover be good areas to consider?

Hoover. As far as congestion is concerned, its much better inside I-459. Avoid 280 and you're in like Flynn.

Default New doctor at UAB

Things are shaping up that I will be starting a new job at UAB as a resident physician. I have lived in Alabama my entire life but have honestly been to Birmingham a total of 2 times. I am currently living in Mobile and I have not enjoyed living here at all...

I was wondering if I could get some specific advice on where to live? I am a white male in my mid-20s, single, no kids. I am hoping to find a better dating scene in bham. The one in Mobile has been...pretty rough. Nowhere to meet people and not much to do

I would prefer to live in the more urban/active area of the city as long as it is safe, but don't really know enough to make an informed decision. Any advice is appreciated.

Parkside is where I would look if I wanted to immerse myself amongst all the young cuties that live, work and play in the area. Lots of new options there.
