The only place in Birmingham is Frank and Pardis Stitt's Highland Grill, Birmingham is NOT a fine dining city.

You're smoking crack. Not only do we have quite a few recognized restaurants here, but we don't have to spend two hours on a congested interstate trying to reach them. Nice try.

I have family in Birmingham, that is my opinion. People do not say lets go to Birmingham, the restaurants there are world class, give me a break. Mostly chain, with a few Mom and Pop places thrown in. It is NOT a "foodie" city in any form or fashion...

Well no ****, but why would anyone in Atlanta even care if Birmingham is a foodie city or does it have fine dining or not?.

I have family in other parts of the country, but yet I dont waste any time spouting pointless opinions on that particular city's forum.

Well, there are informed opinions and then there are uninformed ones.

At least stick to a consistent position. There's enormous difference between your previous statement that Frank Stitt is the only game in town and now saying that we're claiming it's a foodie destination. Talk about making the leap.

Even then, The New York Times, Gourmet, and a host of other authoritative mags -- As opposed to the local rags -- would beg to differ. In addition to Stitt, Chris Hastings and Chris DuPont have also developed restaurants that have put Birmingham on the map, and are creating quite a pool of local pool of talent. Would I put it on par with New York, San Fran, or New Orleans? Of course not, for that would be almost as stupid as your remarks. However, the profusion of emerging restaurants speaks to a food scene that's decidedly on the rise. And, yes, to your point, there's quite a bit of traffic now from places such as Nashville and Atlanta of people coming to town for a three-day weekend to dine their way around town.

I realize that, being from Atlanta, the end-all be-all mecca of everything, the veritable dimple of the universe, you cannot handle the possibility that any other city within a three hour drive might actually have anything worth having. But do you realize how insecure you appear?

My family tends to like the Sekisui (the one in Vestavia, not the downtown one), and Purple Onion. Both are chains, but at least PO is a local one. We also like Costa's Mediterranean and Kool Korner. If you're ever at Don Pepe's, make sure you try the black bean dip.

It would be pointless to even give this poster and thread much more breath...we know what we have and so do many Americans across the country. Unfortunately, our neighbor has no clue, perhaps he should do a little more research and actually visit, before making such a statement (s).

I likely know more about Birmingham than all of you. I am 62 years old and am not some twink like some of you are. Believe me, Birmingham is nothing much to be proud of. And to someone who thought I live in Atlanta, I don't, but would like too.
