From what I heard work could begin in 6 weeks.

Its needed. The Greyhound bus station is an absolute dump, and the train station from what ive heard isnt much better.

Well there were complaints that the gold dome building wasnt that old. However this new facility is going to be more efficient I think.

I think that the current facility, despite the distinctive dome, was very much of a bandaid with limited usefulness. I like the idea that we're trying to create a more comprehensive kind of facility, thereby thinking more than a year or two into the future. Yes, I realize that's out of character, but gotta like the new mentality that's afoot in this burg.

yes a building that contains all transportation needs for the metro is good...hopefully it's bigger enough to add on if needed....(light rail) down the road, perhaps?

I concur with you on this. Birmingham needs expanded transit options such as LRT or HRT. This would do wonders for downtown's revitalization.

Think of what kind of re-branding HRT (Heavy Rail Transit) could do for Birmingham's reputation. It would make the city the 2nd metro in the south to have such transit options. Until then, one can hope.

Light rail - Bhamwiki

Only if Birmingham can come thru on some of these proposals from years ago...(multi-purpose facility as well), it would already be here for the revitalization that's going on right now in the city....smh

Great link. I had no idea there were proposals as far back as the late 90's.
I wonder what ridership numbers would be if there were LRT in Birmingham today?
