My fiance and myself are moving attempting to move closer to our new jobs, which are on Lakeshore, right next to West Oxmoor Rd. Due to a limited budget (at most $750, and that's only including utilities and still pushing it) we're been struggling to find a place to move.

We would prefer to be in a good neighborhood, so we aren't scared to walk the dog at night and such. I heard about a place called Homewood Townhomes on Valley Ave and another place called Oxmoor Ridge. Has anyone heard of these places or does anyone know of anywhere good?

I don't too much like Valley, but I haven't actively been looking for a place to live on it. So, you are just going to have to look around and see how each place is. There are a bunch of new places down Lakeshore in the Sannon-Oxmoor Rd area. Many have a not so desirable zip code (35211) which will probably push your car and renter's insurance up, but most of them are gated and new or fairly new.

Still, 750 is going to be tight. You gotta have internet and cell phones, I understand - but probably no TV with that budget.

The budget is for rent and utilities only, we're not counting all other bills if that helps

That is going to be rough. $100 for power, $30 for gas, a little for leeway and you are looking for a $550 or less rental.

Bottom line is if you want to be anywhere close to Homewood on that budget, you are going to be in a pretty seedy complex. No two ways about it.

You might be able to find a room in a shared apartment or house or something for a lot cheaper, but I doubt you are interested in going that route.

You aren't going to find it. I wish I could say something different but you aren't going to find a good neighborhood in that range. Homewood Townhomes are your best bet but even with that... There's a reason they're so cheap. That stretch of road is probably the best of all evils in that general area. I definitely wouldn't go for anything on Green Springs.
