i drive 1st Ave North almost every day into downtown, and have noticed several areas along the road fenced off. i presume those are for the stations going in.

Information digital boards will be installed at all 32 stops on the BRT line..

New information technology systems and passenger information display systems will be added to the Birmingham Xpress Bus Rapid Transit system.

Jan. 18 Birmingham City Council approved an agreement between Mayor Randall Woodfin and the Birmingham Jefferson County Transit Authority to purchase and install the new systems at the BRT’s two transit centers and 32 transit stations.

“This will allow passengers to have a streamlined experience for monitoring headways and routes, purchasing tickets, marketing, and other informational displays,” the city said in a statement.

The BRT is a city of Birmingham project in partnership with the U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Transit Administration and the Birmingham-Jefferson County Transit Authority.

The BRT, which will implement technology and innovative system designs to improve travel time, lower costs and enhance service, will connect 25 neighborhoods along a 10-mile corridor from Woodlawn Transit Center on First Avenue North between 56th and 57th streets to the Crossplex Transit Center at the intersection of Avenue W and 47th Street Ensley.

Boarding Stations on 5th Ave S and 18th St S:

the western end seems to be progressing faster than the eastern end. still no stations up on 1st Ave N, although i imagine it won't be long.

Wondering if this new system will operate longer than the MAX services..??

I drove the entire route last week. Pretty impressive design and setup for what we are probably use to around here. Those bus lane only signs are large and very noticable. Most car was already obeying the bus only lane and not traveling in it as I observed on Lomb Ave. 6th Ave S portion was a different story. 18th St was another disaster. People are still parking on the street from 5th Ave. to 1st Ave. From downtown to Woodlawn, not much street work as I could tell, yet. I'm sure bus only lane signs are going up there as well. I'm sure the first couple months will have some issues because of people generally not understanding or caring.
